Rotobrush Duct Sealing & Repair: The New York Owner’s Guide
If you own a Rotobrush system and the sealing or repair components are failing, we stock and install Rotobrush-compatible duct sealing and repair parts across New York, with most repairs running between $275 and $650 installed depending on your model and the extent of the damage. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a seal that’s no longer holding, a coupling that’s cracked, or a brush head that’s worn past the point where it can agitate debris off the duct wall properly. The fix is usually straightforward once the right part is matched to your machine, and that’s where most New York owners get stuck.

We’re not affiliated with Rotobrush. We’re an independent service company that works on their equipment every week, and we’ve learned the hard way which parts fail first and why. Dale Whitmore, our owner, started on the mechanical side of HVAC years ago and has been working on rotary brush systems long enough to know that a $40 seal left unchecked turns into a $400 repair when the brush head binds and takes the drive coupling with it.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush has made several generations of duct cleaning systems over the years, and the sealing and repair parts are not all interchangeable. The most common machines we see in New York are the Rotobrush aiR+ and the older Rotobrush 1 and 1.5 series, plus the Rotobrush R500 and R2 units that many contractors bought in the late 2000s. The sealing components differ between series: the aiR+ uses a different shaft seal spec than the R500, and the brush coupling on the 1.5 series is not a match for the aiR+ head assembly.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up owners trying to order their own parts: the part number stamped on the housing often refers to an assembly, not the individual seal or coupling inside it. Rotobrush parts diagrams list the assembly number, and a generic “Rotobrush seal” search will surface parts that fit one series but not yours. If you can read the full model number off the data plate and measure the shaft diameter with calipers, you’ll know more than most parts counters do. We always confirm both before ordering anything.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for Rotobrush specifically, OEM seals and couplings are worth the extra cost on shaft seals and drive couplings because the tolerances are tight and a cheap aftermarket seal fails in months. For brush heads and agitation brushes, quality aftermarket equivalents hold up fine and save real money. We stock both and tell you the price difference before you choose.

Signs Your Rotobrush Duct Sealing & Repair Is Failing
- Debris blowing back into the living space. This is the classic symptom of a failed shaft seal. The negative-pressure side of the system can’t hold, and loosened material escapes around the seal instead of being pulled into the collection bag.
- A grinding or squealing sound from the brush head. That’s usually a shaft bearing or coupling on its way out. If you hear it, stop running the machine. A seized bearing chews up the shaft, and then you’re replacing the whole head assembly instead of a $30 part.
- The brush stops spinning or spins unevenly. Usually a worn drive coupling. The coupling is designed to fail before the motor does, so when it strips, that’s the machine protecting itself. Replace the coupling and you’re back in business.
- Visible cracks or tears in the flex hose connections. New York’s temperature swings, especially in unheated basements and garages, harden rubber and plastic seals faster than the manufacturer’s lifespan estimates assume. A cracked hose seal loses suction even if everything else works.
- Reduced suction at the collection bag. This is the slow fail. It could be a seal, a hose, or a clogged filter on the collection side. We diagnose it the same way every time: test the negative pressure at each connection point and find where it drops.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For New York homes and the contractors who work in them, here’s what Rotobrush duct sealing and repair typically runs, installed:
- Shaft seal replacement: $275 – $400 including parts and labor. Price varies by series: the aiR+ seal costs more than the R500 seal, and installation takes about 90 minutes.
- Drive coupling replacement: $225 – $350. The part itself is inexpensive; the labor is disassembling the head assembly to reach it.
- Brush head replacement (agitation brush): $300 – $550 depending on series and brush diameter. Aftermarket brushes run less and hold up for typical New York residential work.
- Flex hose and connection seal kit: $180 – $300. We replace all connection seals at once rather than chasing one leak at a time.
- Full sealing and repair service (inspection, seals, coupling, brush check): $450 – $650 for most units when several parts have failed together, which is common.
Every quote is a written price before we start work. You see the parts cost, the labor cost, and the total, and that number does not change when we’re standing at the door. The work comes under the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we return and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, on every job, no exceptions.

DIY or Call Us?
There are a couple of things you can safely check yourself before calling anyone. Look for visible cracks in the hose connections and seals. Run the machine briefly and listen for the grinding sound we described above. If the brush head looks worn or the suction is weak at the collection bag, note when it started and whether it got worse quickly or gradually. That information helps us diagnose faster.
Here’s where DIY goes wrong. The brush head and drive coupling sit on a powered shaft. If the machine kicks on while your hand is in there, you’re looking at a serious injury. Rotobrush systems are professional-grade equipment, not homeowner tools, and the rotating assembly deserves the same respect you’d give a table saw. Seals are pressed into housings with tight tolerances; a mis-seated seal fails immediately and you’ve spent two hours and forty dollars to end up where you started. If you’re in New York and the part has failed, call us at (585) 517-2324 and we’ll match the part, price it honestly, and get it installed right the first time.
FAQs
Shaft seals on Rotobrush systems typically last 3 to 5 years under normal residential use, but New York’s humid summers and cold winters in unheated storage spaces can shorten that to 2 to 3 years. Drive couplings wear faster on units used for large commercial jobs or multi-unit buildings with long duct runs. We tell you what we found, what we did, and what it cost, in writing, before we leave.
No. Once a shaft seal is cracked, torn, or worn past tolerance, it cannot be repaired. Seals are consumable parts designed to be replaced, and attempting to patch one with adhesive or tape fails within days. Call (585) 517-2324 and we’ll match the correct replacement seal for your series.
Most sealing and coupling repairs take between 90 minutes and 2 hours from diagnosis to test run. We carry common Rotobrush seals, couplings, and brush heads on the truck, so we can usually complete the work in one visit rather than ordering and returning. If your series requires a part we don’t have on hand, we’ll give you a written timeline and price before we order anything.
We stock the most common Rotobrush replacement parts for the aiR+, R500, R2, and 1.5 series, including shaft seals, drive couplings, agitation brushes, and hose connection seals. We also stock compatible parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier duct systems. If your unit needs something we don’t carry, we’ll source it and give you the parts cost in writing before the work is scheduled. For an exact match on your Rotobrush model, call (585) 517-2324 for a free estimate.
If your Rotobrush system is down and you’re losing work or breathing dust that should be in the collection bag, call us. We’ll match the part to your model, give you a written price before any work starts, and stand behind the repair with the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That means if it fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee, and it’s been the standard on every job since 2004.
